The Unseen Angels

Not a lot of people would want to wake up and look like they have just rolled out of bed.
I’m speaking for myself. I am sure most people in my profession take personal grooming very seriously! Not that I don’t, but I often find myself running, literally nonstop, all day.
People in my profession often get overlooked and undervalued as an essential part of society, we care for the elderly and for people with a disability in their own homes.
We are the ones who make sure the widow who just lost her husband is eating and often we may pop in with some flowers to brighten up her day. We are the ones who may go out in the middle of the night when a person has fallen out of their bed or to straighten out a kinked catheter.
It could be one of us who makes sure that the elderly man down the road has milk or bread in his cupboard. It maybe one of us who ensures an elderly uncle or aunty has a warm meal in the evenings.
We may occasionally pop in to drop off stamps we have collected for your elderly neighbour.
We maybe someone who buys someone a cup of coffee or who will sit with someone just because.
You may find us sitting with someone who is dying, holding the hands of someone on their last day when they have no one. We reassure them they are safe, loved and cared for.
We give company to the lonely, care for those who have no one and love for those sometimes forgotten.
We are the workers who care, the unseen angels.
We are care workers.
